渋紙張りの茶壺

茶壷の渋紙が壺の補強用だけではなく、
流通時の商品ラベルとしても機能していた様子がよくわかる一品

紙には「大正五年」と書かれている部分があるが、
壺の口部分には「明治三十七年」と墨書が有る
明治後期としては素朴な作りのため、壺自体は江戸後期〜明治期の品と思われる

読み取れる地名のいくつかは、
宇都宮からも比較的近い、茨城県北部 奥久慈地域に一致するものが存在し、
同地は今も奥久慈茶として知られる銘茶の産地である
